Bone Char Carbon Media

Bone char carbon is produced by the calcination or "dry distillation" of cattle bones at temperatures approaching 1000°C in the absence of oxygen. The tricalcium phosphate in bone char carbon can be used to remove fluoride, arsenic, metal ions from water, making it useful for the treatment of drinking supplies. It is the oldest known water defluoridation agent.

Reduces or Removes Fluoride, Arsenic, and Radioactive Isotopes

Reduces or removes a wide range of chemicals & odors better than standard carbon, including fluoride, arsenic, radioactive particles, chlorine, chloramines, herbicides, pesticides, MTBE, THM, bromine, and manganese.

Reduces or Removes Metals

Bone char carbon has high adsorptive capacities for certain metals, particularly those like copper, zinc, iron and cadmium. Other more toxic metal ions can also be removed, such as those of lead, mercury, aluminum, and silver.

This eliminates the need for gravel and ensures a more efficient system, and a cleaner, longer lasting media

The upflow system eliminates the need for backwashing or electricity to operate. Additionally, the system requires no chemicals or additives. This results in a low maintenance system with low operating costs. These systems are intended for water supplies with little to no sediment or particualtes.

Product Description

Eliminate wastewater and reduce your energy use with a GreenFlow™ Bone Char Carbon system. This upflow system reverses the normal flow of water through the media bed, eliminating the need for a backwash. Since the media works through the process of adsorption, you still get effective treatment of chlorine, tastes, odors, and chemicals all without electricity or wasted water.

The catalytic activity of this activated carbon makes it highly effective for the reduction of chloramines and hydrogen sulfide from potable water. Its large micropore volume makes it particularly well suited for the reduction of low molecular weight organic compounds and their chlorinated by-products such as chloroform and other trihalomethanes (THMs). This provides excellent removal of chlorine, chloramines, and hydrogen sulfide.

Homes on city water will enjoy chlorine and chloramine removal, eliminating a harmful chemical and preventing respitory problems that may be associated with chlorinated water. Homes on well water will benefit from the removal of herbicides and pesticides that can find their way into water supplies. In both cases, carbon filtration improves the appeal of water, removing tastes and odors that can discourage healthy drinking water habits.

Service flow rate is the manufacturer's recommendation for maximum removal of all contaminants at a constant flow. Intermittent flow rate, lower contaminant levels and/or fewer contaminants MAY allow higher treatment flow rates. In most applications intermittent flow rates of 2-3 times the rated flow rate MAY be possible.
