Description
ResinTech SIR-110-HP: PFAS-Selective and Nitrate Removal Resin – 1 Cubic Foot
Premium Anion Exchange Resin for Targeted Removal of PFAS and Nitrates from Water
ResinTech SIR-110-HP is a high-capacity, macroporous anion exchange resin engineered specifically for the selective removal of contaminants like PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) and nitrates. With its unique acrylic matrix and chloride-form functionality, this resin provides exceptional performance in residential, commercial, and municipal water treatment applications.
How It Works for PFAS Removal
PFAS compounds such as PFOA and PFOS are small, negatively charged molecules that are extremely persistent in groundwater and surface water. ResinTech SIR-110-HP utilizes a macroporous acrylic matrix that is tailored for adsorbing and exchanging these contaminants effectively, offering:
-
Hydrophobic affinity for long-chain PFAS compounds
-
Selective ion exchange that prefers PFAS over competing anions like sulfate and bicarbonate
-
Lower TOC fouling risk compared to polystyrene-based resins
Unlike traditional anion exchange resins, SIR-110-HP is designed for greater PFAS capacity and longer service life before breakthrough. It provides high-efficiency PFAS capture without the need for frequent regeneration, making it suitable for point-of-entry and point-of-use systems.
How It Works for Nitrate Removal
Nitrates (NO₃⁻) are negatively charged ions that can be effectively removed using anion exchange. SIR-110-HP achieves this through:
-
Chloride-for-nitrate ion exchange – The resin replaces chloride ions with nitrate ions in the water stream
-
High selectivity for nitrates over sulfates due to its acrylic backbone
-
Consistent removal capacity with minimal pressure drop
This makes SIR-110-HP a highly effective solution for reducing nitrate contamination in drinking water—especially critical for homes with private wells in agricultural regions.
Note: A post-treatment monitoring step or chloride analyzer is recommended to ensure nitrate levels remain within EPA limits (10 mg/L as nitrogen).
Applications
-
Whole-house filtration systems
-
Point-of-use drinking water systems
-
Municipal PFAS compliance
-
Nitrate removal for residential wells
-
Pre- and post-treatment for reverse osmosis systems
PFAS REMOVAL
ResinTech SIR-110-HP can be used for the removal of various PFAS compounds, including PFOA and PFOS, from water. Currently, this is a non-regenerable application. Testing has shown it can remove a wide range of other PFAS species in addition to these compounds. Ion exchange offers the benefit of reduced contact times and longer throughputs vs. conventional activated carbon treatment. An understanding of the influent water chemistry is needed for a thorough review. Levels of TOC, VOC, and individual PFAS compounds are needed in addition to the basic background water chemistry (chloride, sulfate, alkalinity, etc.). Any other contaminants that may be present are also needed to determine the impact on PFAS removal (uranium, perchlorate, chromate, arsenic, etc.)
